Elias -
Elias is the Miranda version of whippets (for those who know the BBC serie) :
he is massive, way out of the standard, clumsy and quite funny.
He's the one who jumps with all his might up to your eyes to greet you.
He's also the one who makes us think that he's been bred with a pack of huskies. Going for a walk with him is quite heart tonic. Once strapped to the leash, you don't know where he may pull: three meters ahead to eat a grasshopper or two meters behind to blissfully sniff some flowers sprayed by the finest canine pee. You've just got to be ready to head in any directions, which forces humbleness and which reminds you of all the possibilities of life : how silly of you to walk straight ahead without roaming !
Well, he's definitely not a guide dog...
Therefore the solution is to let him free but when he races off-leash, our hearts race too : he is very much like Superman who's got a super great mission. He sticks his nose to the ground, sniffes it for a couple of seconds and then runs straight ahead, whether he is in a nice forest or by the highway : he just can't stop !
We have tried all the latest education tips to train him not to go far : it has worked in a way but his idea of 'far' is definitely not our idea of 'far'...
He can also be very calm (you don't have to believe that part) when he wants some cuddles : he sits down in front of you, mesmerizes you with his amazing golden eyes until you feel bad not to hug him. He loves being stroked but being hugged is what he favours most. Just look at him, slap your laps and he'll put his front paws on your shoulders waiting for you to squeeze him in your arms. He'll do it not any visitors (once labelled "ok-can-come-in" of course by the pack).
In general guests do not always feel at ease to be stared at by such a mysterious serious-looking dog - for cuddling is deadly serious !
But Superman is not alone, and has never been since his birth actually, for he lives with Robin Woods, his tiny witty brother, called Eliot...
